YK Diamonds shares knowledge and helps you better understand the world of jewelry and diamonds in general.
Before buying a diamond, it is important to have some notions about the gemstone on which you are going to throw your sights.
Let’s start with the 4C rule, the most important one for buying a diamond;
CARAT: It is the weight of the diamond that is expressed in grams. One carat is equal to 0.2 gram and is divided into 100 points.
COLOR: It is the color of the diamond that goes from D to Z. D is considered as an exceptionally white white, Z as yellow.
CLARITY: It is the purity of the diamond that goes from LC (loupe clean) to SI2. Between the two, one finds VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1. Which means that when a magnifier is taken which magnifies 10 times, it is very difficult to include inside the diamond for VVS1 and VVS2, A little less difficult for the VS1 and VS2 and more easily for SI1 and SI2.
CUT: That’s the way the diamond is cut. The graduation is established for the proportions, polishing and symmetry of the diamond and goes from Excellent, Very Good, Good to Fair.
The qualities (carat, purity, color and size, according to international standards) of certain diamonds make it the most famous jewelry gemstones.
The beauty of its brilliance is due to the fact that it has a high refractive index of light and a great dispersive power: by penetrating, the rays of light are reflected inside the stone to infinity and the light White disperses, returns inside transformed into a range of colors. Diamonds (like drops of water) function as prisms by braking, more or less depending on the wavelengths (violet to maximum, red to a minimum), so that the colors are dispersed in the form of an arc- in sky.
All diamonds are not used in jewelery. The slightest defect can take them away from the value and they are then used for industrial applications. They are internal bubbles or foreign particles, poor coloring or irregular shape.
